True Crime Month: The Thin Blue Line

8:00 PM 12th March 2026 Vault Art Studios - Shankill Mission

Normal Cinema Club and Shankill Screen present Errol Morris' atmosphere true crime documentary, The Thin Blue Line (1988).

In the first of two screenings considering 'true' 'crime' , Normal Cinema Club and Shankill Screen present classic doc THE THIN BLUE LINE.

It's True Crime Month at Normal Cinema Club, and we're considering how our recent obsession has shaped the world we lived in today, where conspiracies, felonies and atrocities lie around every corner.

For the first of two screenings, we're teaming up yet again with Shankill Screen to present Errol Morris' THE THIN BLUE LINE.

This classic doc follows the case of Randall Dale Adams, convicted of the murder of a police officer at a road stop. Though inititally intrigued by the story of a prison psychiatrist who was responsible for at least 100 death sentences, Morris stumbled across Adams' case and becomes convinced he is innocent. His investigation uncovers a system not just corrupt, but completely uncaring and sympathetic to the people it's allegedly 'protecting.'

The stylised reconstructions and direct-to-camera talking head interviews we now consider standard fare in true crime docs are seen here in an early/perfect form. Morris' tableaux of the crime scene have not been matched, putting the slop we consume through Netflix to shame. The lamenting sadness of the Philip Glass score underpins the cruel negligence of the systems that oversee truth and justice. Mistakes don't matter.

Doors will open at 7.30pm, with the film beginning shortly after 8pm. The film will be screened with subtitles. This is a strictly 18+ event.
