Reel Lives: Little Amelie: English Language Version (Autism Friendly Screening)

2:00 PM 13th June 2026 Nerve Centre

Foyle Film Festival presents an autism-friendly, Reel Lives screening of the English-language version of Little Amélie (2025).

This screening is designed for people on the autism spectrum or with other additional needs, along with their families, friends and carers.

The film will be presented with higher-than-usual lighting and lower-than-usual sound, and the audience will be free to move around.

The world is a perplexing, peaceful mystery to Amélie until a miraculous encounter with chocolate ignites her wild sense of curiosity. As she develops a deep attachment to her family's housekeeper, Nishio-san, Amélie discovers the wonders of nature as well as the emotional truths hidden beneath the surface of her family's idyllic life as foreigners in post-war Japan.

Oscar® and BAFTA nominated, Little Amélie or the Character of Rain is a tender, poignant and visually stunning story about the healing power of human connection based on Amélie Nothomb’s best-selling autobiographical novel. Driven by the joy and confusion of a little girl’s discovery of the world and her place within it, Maïlys Vallade and Liane-Cho Han’s poetic, stunningly crafted animation feels like it’s arrived from a different planet.
