Reel Lives: Broken English

Foyle Film Festival presents a Reel Lives screening of Broken English (2025).

Directed by BAFTA nominees Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard, Broken English is a portrait of Marianne Faithfull, starring Tilda Swinton, George MacKay, Nick Cave, Suki Waterhouse and Courtney Love.

Drawing on interviews, archival material and Faithfull’s final recorded performance, this genre-defying documentary traces a life shaped by fame and reinvention.

Across six decades and more than 35 albums, Faithfull has remained one of the most distinctive voices of her generation, and her work continues to inspire. Made with her full participation, Broken English is a bold and unflinching act of resilience and rebellion — Marianne Faithfull’s final fearless declaration, her defiant swan song.
