Based on the hit play by Agatha Christie, Billy Wilder’s (Sunset Boulevard) twisty courtroom drama was described by Christie herself as the finest film adaptation of her work.
When a wealthy widow is found murdered, her married suitor, Leonard Vole (Tyrone Power), is accused of the crime. After Vole hires the ailing barrister Sir Wilfrid Robarts (the Oscar nominated Charles Laughton), he tells Vole that the only hope for acquittal is the testimony of Vole’s wife, Christine (Marlene Dietrich). But Vole’s airtight alibi shatters when Christine reveals some secrets of her own.
Featuring a plethora of shocking revelations, Wilder’s film crackles with humour, tension and memorable performances.
