Join us for a informative day of screenings and insights designed to empower emerging filmmakers and bold storytellers.

Led by Nerve Centre in Northern Ireland, BFI Film Academy is delivered by Nerve Centre in partnership with Amma Centre and Cinemagic and supported by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), and National Lottery.

Level Up: Real Journeys Into VFX, Animation & Gaming

Ready to turn your love of digital creativity into a real career?

Join industry professionals from National Talent Academies and Northern Ireland Screen Academies as they reveal how to break into the exciting worlds of visual effects, animation, and game development.

You’ll hear authentic stories from people currently working on everything from blockbuster films to indie games, discovering the different paths that led them to success. Whether you’re drawn to 3D modeling, character animation, or games design, these professionals will share the essential skills you need and give you practical, actionable advice on launching your creative career.

Your Story Starts Here: Breaking Into Screen & Digital Storytelling

Join us for an inspiring event where newly qualified trainees, supported by Northern Ireland Screen, will share their real journeys from starting out to landing roles in film and TV production. Hear first-hand how they navigated
their way into exciting careers in scripted and unscripted television, and learn about the diverse opportunities waiting for you — from research and production to art department, locations, and sustainability roles.

This is your chance to connect with peers who’ve already made the leap and discover the training pathways that could launch your own screen career. With expert guidance from Northern Ireland Screen and trainees already working in the sector, you’ll learn exactly how to turn your passion for storytelling into your future profession.

BFI Film Academy SCENE

Join us for informal, peer-to-peer networking and interview events for young filmmakers aged 16–25, providing opportunities to share advice on filmmaking and industry opportunities, meet collaborators, and learn from professionals and each other.

These events are part of the broader BFI Film Academy programme, which also includes practical courses, masterclasses and special events aiming to connect and support the next generation of screen industry professionals.

Foyle Film Festival Young Filmmakers Showcase

Young Filmmakers Showcase at Foyle Film Festival celebrates the work of young, aspiring filmmakers aged 16–25 supported by the work of the BFI Film Academy programme, supporting young filmmakers in their first professional productions.

Young Filmmakers Showcase will also celebrate the work of Nerve Centre's Screen Academies over the last 12 months.

Derry-Donegal Screen Lab

Derry-Donegal Screen Lab is a project of the Spraoi agus Spórt, funded by the Irish Government’s Co-Operation with Northern Ireland scheme.

These films were produced for the project in October 2025 by young people from the North West of Ireland from both sides of the border as part of a programme designed by Spraoi agus Spórt in partnership with Nerve Centre and North West Regional College.
