Docs Ireland: Listen to the Land Speak + Conversation with Ruán Magan + Maurice O’Brien
Docs ireland presents a screening of Listen to the Land Speak (2025) followed by a special discussion on Manchán Magan’s work with Magan’s great collaborator, and brother, Ruán Magan, and director Maurice O’Brien, hosted by writer Kerri ní Dochartaigh.
Manchán Magan was an author, traveller, broadcaster and documentary maker. In August 2025, Manchán was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of neuroendocrine prostate cancer. He departed, imithe ar shlí na fírinne, on October 2nd 2025.
Docs Ireland wanted to pay tribute to the immense contribution Manchán made to Irish culture, Irish language, Irish life. We will screen his last documentary, Listen to the Land Speak, made whilst he knew of his diagnosis.
Listen to the Land Speak follows writer Manchán Magan on a journey across Ireland’s sacred sites, uncovering wisdom encoded in our land, language, and myths.
Filmed over four seasons, the film unfolds from Winter Solstice to Bealtaine through Reek Sunday to Samhain – exploring how the stories and myths associated with the rivers, mountains and lands around us are crucial to unlocking aspects of how we live today.
Manchan’s great collaborator, and brother, Ruán Magan, will be joined by director Maurice O’Brien for a special discussion on Manchan’s work, hosted by writer Kerri ní Dochartaigh.
