Docs Ireland: Chris Packham: People’s Emergency Briefing
Docs Ireland presents a special climate-themed event featuring a broadcast by naturalist and activist Chris Packham.
What’s happening with climate and nature, and what does it mean for everyday life in the UK? This eye-opening film bringing together nine leading UK scientists and experts with the latest evidence and why it matters.
The film is based on the National Emergency Briefing in Westminster with appearances from Chris Packham and a range of voices from across the UK.
We will be also screening a new Nature’s Keepers film on Lough Neagh from Friends of the Earth NI.
After the films we will joined by Professor Mark Emmerson and a representative from the Save Lough Neagh campaign group, chaired by James Orr from Friends of the Earth NI, for a short discussion about the local context of the climate and nature crisis and what action we can take.
Save Lough Neagh

Mark Emmerson
Mark Emmerson is a Professor of Biodiversity in the QUB School of Biological Sciences. His research focuses on the drivers of biodiversity loss and the consequences for ecosystem functioning and stability. He uses a mixture of experimental and theoretical approaches to understand and predict the dynamics of natural ecosystems in response to the drivers of biodiversity change. Increasingly, these drivers of change involve the decision-making processes of those that manage the land and sea and understanding those decisions is key to the implementation of measures that can limit impacts on biodiversity and ecosystems. Mark’s recent research has focused on the mitigating effects of biodiversity on climate change impacts through the application of Nature based Solutions. Mark is the Vice President of the British Ecological Society, is a Co-Chair of the All-Island Climate and Biodiversity Research Network, member of Belfast City Council Sustainability and Resilience Board and Steering Group member of ClimateNI.
