Film Hub NI Collective tour brings acclaimed Irish film Christy to communities across NI
Film Hub NI is delighted to announce that Brendan Canty’s award-winning debut feature Christy will tour community cinemas across Northern Ireland this autumn as part of the Collective Tour.
"Real, raw and beautiful" - Irish Examiner
Fresh from its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival and winner of Best Irish Film at the Galway Film Fleadh, Christy has been praised as “warm, moving and funny” (The Guardian) and “deserving a place among the best Irish films” (RTÉ).
Set in Cork, the film follows Christy (Danny Power), a teenager navigating fractured family ties and the search for belonging. With powerful performances from a cast including Diarmuid Noyes, Helen Behan, Alison Oliver and Chris Walley, Christy is a heartfelt story of resilience, humour and hope.
Christy, seventeen, is forced to move in with his estranged older half-brother after being thrown out of his suburban foster home. While his brother sees the arrangement as temporary, Christy begins to feel at home on Cork's working-class Northside, making friends and reconnecting with his past through his seemingly more corrupting extended family. Determined to give Christy a better future, his brother faces tough choices that could drive a wedge between them. After so many years apart, the brothers need to now reconcile their turbulent past whilst deciding what the future looks like.
Each screening will feature an exclusive recorded introduction from director Brendan Canty.
