Beat The Lotto: New Tour Announced Across Northern Ireland

13th November 2025 2 Minute Read

Film Hub NI is pleased to announce a new Collective tour of Beat The Lotto, screening at community cinemas and film clubs across Northern Ireland this November and December.

When downtrodden 1980s Ireland inaugurated a National Lottery, the people began to dream. For Cork-based mathematician Stefan Klincewicz, it became an obsession. Spotting a flaw in the system, he recruited a ragtag team of chancers and masterminded an audacious plan to fix the draw and win the millions. The heist became public knowledge, and in a race against time, the lottery did everything they could to try and stop the steal—dividing the nation on a very public caper.

Director Ross Whitaker fashions this unbelievable true story into a gripping thriller, mirroring the tension felt by the public as the lottery authorities caught wind of the plan. With insightful interviews and fantastic archival footage, the film is a look back at Ireland in the 1990s and a compelling tale of one man’s attempt to outsmart the system.

"...invests this pre-Celtic Tiger tale with the punch-the-air rhythms of a sports movie." – Irish Times
