AMINI is an artist led initiative for the promotion and critical discussion of artists' moving image in Northern Ireland.
Recent screening events include AMINI 19, in September 2019, a day of screenings in association with the MAC and Visual Artists Ireland.
This included an AEMI touring programme curated on the occasion of ‘93% Stardust’, Vivienne Dick’s major retrospective at IMMA in 2017; a personal selection of films that inspire her internationally acclaimed experimental film work. Peter Taylor, Director of the Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival (BFMAF), also presented a special screening of contemporary works from this years Festival. The day finished with the Jarman Award Screenings, a showcase of works from artists at the forefront of experimentation in filmmaking today.
AMINI was founded by Michael Hanna and Jacqueline Holt in 2015 and has two main objectives:
• On a local level AMINI has been set up to support artists’ moving image practice within the region. We do this by organising screenings and events, and hosting the LUX Belfast Critical Forum, which meets each month at the MAC.
• In parallel to this, AMINI is focused on developing networks to promote artists’ moving image from the region, alongside the wider diaspora of practice connected to Northern Ireland, on an international platform.
