Ones to Watch Launch Screenshots at the Nerve Centre
Ones To Watch, the young film programmers group at the Nerve Centre, is excited to present its brand new screening and talk series 'Screenshots' beginning on Monday 5 March at the Nerve Centre.
Funded by Film Hub NI, the Ones To Watch group programmes cinema screenings, training programmes and film production workshops for young people aged 17-25 years.
If you’re a student of film or just a film lover interested in hearing more about the iconic film directors of the late 20th century and early 21st century or even just seeing some trailblazers of cinema on the big screen then 'Screenshots' is for you!
Thanks to Film Hub NI and our friends from the University of Ulster, North West Regional College, Foyle Film Festival and Banterflix; students and teachers of cinema will be sharing their love for a favoured film director or era of cinema. Featuring the work of Martin Scorsese, John Carpenter, Ridley Scott, James Cameron, the Coen Brothers, Quentin Tarantino, Roberto Rodriguez, Steven Soderbergh, Sophia Coppola, Martin McDonagh, this is a must for any young fan of good movies!
On Monday 5 March, 1pm – 4pm, we’ll be looking at the work of Joel and Ethan Coen and how they’ve reinvented Film Noir for a modern audience. The talk will be followed by a screening of Miller's Crossing.
To celebrate International Women's Day on Thursday 8 March, Dr Carolann North from the University of Ulster will deliver a special talk called Kick Ass Female Action Heroes looking at awesome heroes in cinema from Ripley to Wonder Woman and will touch upon such classics as Mad Max Fury Road, The Fifth Element, Terminator 2, Kill Bill and Wonder Woman. This screening will be an evening screening.
By that stage we’ll be well ready for the Foyle Intercultural and Anti- Racism Festival which takes place in venues throughout Derry-Londonderry from Tuesday 20 March to Friday 6 April. A fantastic fortnight of cinema awaits film lovers, full programme here.
Ones To Watch will return in April with more great talks on the films of Quentin Tarantino, Roberto Rodriguez, Martin McDonagh, John Carpenter, James Cameron, Ridley Scott, Chris Morris and Edgar Wright, because, well why not!
Ones To Watch are adopting a Pay What You Want model but have recommended a £2 admission fee (to include a good cuppa and a caramel Rocky. Couldn’t beat it!). Stay up to date with the Ones To Watch 'Screenshots' series on Facebook.
